The Most Important Thing About The Season.

There are so many issues we cloud our minds with; what to wear, what to eat, how to acquire more money, and so on. We just want to accumulate more in every aspect. Some even act like they’re going to leave this world. Too many unimportant issues are given the highest priorities.

Christmas is here and we are all bothered about the clothes to buy, shoes to get, the hairstyle to make, food to eat, and so on. Yeah, we consider all these and many more as activities attached to the season which just makes the whole thing memorable and fun filled. But are all these the most important?

Maybe you’re yet to go for your Christmas shopping or the friends and families you expect gifts from are yet to pay their yearly dues or that special gift you want to buy for yourself costs too much.

Maybe you’re yet to buy foodstuffs and things are a bit tough. Maybe you’re yet to buy gifts for your loved ones (parents and highly regarded close family and friends), and it bothers you, because you don’t have enough resources. Maybe you’re even yet to achieve your ultimate goal for the year.

Of course, all these could get one weary, disturbed, drained and stressed. But these thing we bother ourselves with aren’t the most important things.

Here is it- Recognizing that God who made you loves you so much and sent His only son, Jesus to save us, and we ought to spend time more with Him.

The joy that comes with the season isn’t about the fun and merry making, but the recognition of the fact that we have a mighty creator that’s so loving and merciful to send His only son into the world to save us from perishing. Therefore, we ought to lay aside every weight and celebrate Him, that’s the essence of Christmas.

Matthew 6:33 enjoins us to seek the Kingdom of God first, this entails praying to Him, studying His word daily and living a lifestyle worthy of emulation. It is after this that things we consider as important will be given unto us (if it’s God’s will though). They are given through Christ- the essence of Christmas, it’s when we surrender all to Him that we begin to enjoy the riches of His grace.

Looking at the story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38-42, Mary recognized the most important thing and held on to it. Martha was distracted by the busy times and complained about Mary’s lack of assistance to Jesus, but his reply was: Mary has chosen what is better and it would not be taken away from her. Despite the hustle and bustle, stress, and preoccupation with other things, Mary chose to sit at Jesus’ feet.

When we recognize our need for God, spend time with Him and rely solely on Him, He’s got our back because He’s ever faithful. His joy is our strength, we can be filled with it if we ask Him.

When we do less, God is then able to do more. He’s never limited by restrictions. He is all powerful and can do more than we can ever ask or think. Real peace, strength for the days ahead and provision is found in God’s presence. It’s not about getting it all done, but choosing what is most important. Seek Him, sit at His feet and soak yourself in His words.

Matthew 11:28-30 shows just how much God loves us. He says “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest…and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”. You see? It’s in Him we can find all we want! Cling unto Him.
