I understand how entertaining reading tweets and Facebook posts are but is that all we spend time doing all day and the other day? For the benefits of our souls, this should be minimized, because I believe the information we fill our heads and minds with from the social media aren’t always appropriate. We understand how important exercise is to the body, reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body. We’re probably aware people exercise daily, so why is reading not done every day? Our mind is as important as our body, right? So, if you’ve not been reading, this is for you. If you are an ardent reader, you should get to know the benefits you’ve been enjoying.
This can never be taken away from you; everything you read fills your head with information you might find useful sooner or later. You know when you have read a piece of information a long time ago and then it comes to use when you never thought about it? That’s what reading does, it commands the acquisition of knowledge.
- Improved vocabulary
Consistent reading surely helps improve one’s diction- both spoken and written words. In the process of reading, you learn new words and the appropriate form it should be used. When I read and peep new words, I check the dictionary immediately, I could underline such word and check later but I have to know the meaning and how it fitted into such sentence.
- Better analytical and thinking skills
Reading improves thinking and analyzing skills, you tend to view things differently and in various perceptions. This is because while you read, it opens your mind to understand and view situations from the writer’s perspective, which enlarges your brain into more analysis and reasoning.
This is probably a testimony for writers. Reading, due to improved vocabulary and knowledge sharpens writing skills. You know an ardent reader when you read their write-ups!
5. Reduces stress
You might have gone through stress the whole day, but when you engage yourself in a great story or an engaging article, the stress slips away. Reading eases tension and enables you to relax.
6. Stimulates the mind
Reading puts the mind to work and those who engage in it are less likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease- progressive mental deterioration that can occur in middle or old age, due to generalized degeneration of the brain- than those that spend more time on less stimulating activities.
This works for me perfectly. The nights sleep seem far away, I pick up a book and while reading, sleep comes calling. It helps you relax better than having your eyes wide on the TV screen.
Thanks for reading. Know of other benefits? Please, share with me in the comments section. Till next time!
PS. Reading doesn’t have to entail just a hard cover. There are various sites and blogs you would find all kinds to read.
